It is generally an unwritten rule that when a councillor dies, to respect that councillor's family, calling the by-election waits until after the funeral and called by the party that councillor represented. This is just basic manners, so campaigning dies not clash with the funeral.

What about those of us who just like toast? No hash browns or fried slice.

I dyed my hair grey, in my early 50s as it had gone a horrible dirty blonde colour. I loved it. But it was loads of effort (you have to bleache it first) and no one commented, thinking it was natural so it'd be rude.
So next time I dyed it pink, then purple, then red, then blue, then people comment

Agree Starmer won't do it, but there is a rising group in Labour grassroots that want PR. I can only hope that we get it eventually!

To avoid this Labour still has time to introduce PR and get rid of FPTP voting. If it'd stop messing around with local government systems, it could concentrate on something that would actually end up with a government people wanted.

My mum's ward! She'll be delighted as she's been voting Lib Dem whenever they stood for years.

There is a church service this evening, but I'm settling in to read my new book by @davidwoodman45.bsky.social to learn even more about this very important part of our history, both for Kingston and for the whole country.

My highlight was the talk by @holland-tom.bsky.social of @theresthistory.bsky.social about how and why King Athelstan was so important.
And I admit, I nicked the bit about 927 being more important than 1066 and therefore should be better known.
But you know what he's right!

Train was named after King Athelstan at Kingston Station.

Unveiling of the new tapestries depicting the 7 Anglo-Saxon Kings that were crowned in Kingston at All Saints Church. Ethelred the Unready was living up to his name and wasn't quite finished, but he'll be along soon.

Joined the last bit if Athelstan Way walk. Some had done 130 miles from Malmesbury to Kingston. I did 3.25miles from Hampton Court - still it's the taking part that counts!
And got to meet up my mate, the former Mayor of Malmesbury over breakfast.
