Those of you who followed me back when Twitter was still a great community will know that running used to be pretty crucial part of my life. I lost that a bit with having kids and the general chaos that has been life since 2020…

…but today I ran a whole (but slow) 5k for the first time since then!!

I never, NEVER thought I would consider Kevin Costner sexier than Richard Gere…but he does look very good in this movie!

Collecting up bits and pieces to take home yesterday and Mum gave me an old shopping bag to carry them.

Turns out this bag is 30 years old! The ‘Schoolbags’ offer was active from 1995-1996!!

Finally (for now), THE BITTER TEA OF GENERAL YEN (1932) is difficult. It’s perfect #PreCodeApril content with forbidden love and sex dreams and interracial romance…but the racism and yellowface and lack of Asian actors in this movie set in China is shocking.

3/5 (rent on Apple TV+)

BORN TO BE BAD (1934) for is a great example of a borderline #PreCodeApril film - very risqué plot with sex and seduction and underwear…but one where (spoiler for a 90yo movie) the fallen woman is still punished… Not a fan of that, and even hot Cary Grant can’t save it!

3/5 (rent on Prime)

A FAREWELL TO ARMS (1932) shouldn’t work - it’s so gushing and melodramatic that it should have been annoying, but it’s actually very effective and affecting.

The battle scenes are incredible, and made all the more emotional for realising that WW2 hadn’t happened yet… 4/5 (BBC iPlayer)

I’m very behind with my #PreCodeApril documenting so sorry for the film post dump!

ONE HOUR WITH YOU (1932) wasn’t very good, although that may be because I wasn’t expecting a musical…or for the characters to keep speaking in rhyme for no reason! 2.5/5 (Free on Internet Archive)

Making the most of train delays yesterday, I also watched THE FRONT PAGE (1931), one of the original screwball comedies that isn’t as good as 1940’s HIS GIRL FRIDAY but is still a lot of fun, and shows that fake news has been around forever… (3/5, rent on Prime)

I’ve wanted to watch THE THIN MAN (1934) since I started #PreCodeApril and it’s finally available to stream on the Internet Archive!

A wonderful murder mystery hidden within a delightful movie about a flirtatious couple that drink a hell of a lot!! 5/5

Next for #PreCodeApril was a true classic - I AM A FUGITIVE FROM A CHAIN GANG (1932)

Powerful social commentary on the brutal justice system in an unnamed Southern state (Georgia) that contained more images that I recognised from Disney’s Robin Hood than I was expecting…!

4/5 (Rent on Apple+)

Starting #PreCodeApril with a bang and watching THE OLD DARK HOUSE (1932) on the train to work!

A creepy and pretty funny horror story that I think is a parody but I honestly can’t tell with pre-code films a lot of the time… 4/5, definitely recommend! (Rent on Prime)

Strong recommendation for BLACK BAG! Funny, stylish, sexy, and exactly the sort of spy thriller with an Agatha Christie-esque edge that you’ve always wanted!!

Hot. So so hot.

I submitted the final draft of my thesis today, which hopefully means that my MD is completed!! A big day, considering I started in 2019!

Celebrating with Prosecco and a long, long movie! (Which has a helpful intermission to allow me to post about it!! The first half of the Brutalist is very good!)

Outdoor swimming tourism at Saltdean Lido!

(Not winter swimming as this pool is heated to a toasty 19 degrees but was very refreshing nonetheless!)

Also - does anyone have a better Christmas jumper?!

When connecting our Yoto player to a new WiFi, you need to input a random 6 letter code it creates and, well, this happened…

Mince pie season begins!!

Sainsbury’s in-store bakery: 4/5
Buttery, flakey, slightly too little mincemeat!

Catching up on the Andy Murray reactions because I was too busy crying before…

…and this is just wonderful 🥰

God, I’m going to miss him on the tour!

I really love Everyman Cinemas but I do find it frustrating that, when buying a ticket alone, I can’t buy one half of a sofa and the single seats are all at the end of a row so have a very sub-optimal view.

Not cool, Everyman. Not cool!

Forgot to end the cycling workout tracking when I got on the train, and can now apparently cycle at over 100km/hr!

I can’t stop thinking about this net exchange from Alexander Zverev a few days ago and the completely unnecessary lies he told so easily.

Is it confirmation bias that I’m not at all surprised, considering he’s had several accusations of domestic abuse made against him?!

Oh my word. Nearly 10 years of playing scrabble with EA and it’s finally happened. I have finally won!!
