Had a blast synergising @deconspirator.bsky.social and ARM project with @mariellew.bsky.social at the @clingendael.bsky.social REKA conference. Discussed current approaches to #FIMI and the challenges European democracies face. Despite our happy faces, we were not always optimistic...

Then Putin came to power. So in February 2000 his rise was depicted as the "Little Tsakhes" fairy tale, where Putin was presented as an ugly dwarf, whom, by the magic of the "television fairy" (Berezovsky), everyone perceives as a handsome man

Tested out a Russian (pre-war) “patriotic education” board game with my students, but they didn’t come away loving the Motherland too much. What I am doing wrong?*

*that was sarcasm. I know what I’m doing

Was caught in the act of presenting some of our research for @deconspirator.bsky.social at #ISA2025 . I might have been praying for more data access…

Apropos of nothing, this is the photo of a pumpkin we carved with my partner during Trump's first election cycle. Still tracks!

That’s what usually happens: journalists publish our argument but never reference our book… that’s literally our what we say! Racism (displaced abjection) and misogyny are chapters in the book!

It does look good on a shelf 🤓

Thanks for the shout-out, Paul!

It looks like Surikov’s “Boyarynya Morozova” painting to me… is McNaughton a connoisseur of Russian art?!

FWIW being afraid of menstrual blood and comparing it to the tide of communism is something very much Nazi coded (see Klaus Theweleit), which, in Cheong’s case, checks out

Political violence is VERY much American. The whole country started with the violence of slavery and indigenous genocide. But I guess that does not count as political for them?..
