Background on OXY's DAC strategy: bsky.app/profile/pear...

Stratos targets 500k metric tons/year of CO2 capture and has a ~$1.3bn price tag but it's important to understand OXY is doing it to create *feedstock* not carbon neutrality.
OXY is so fascinating. They're scaling up direct air capture of CO2 not because they want to offset CO2 emissions, but because they're desperate for more CO2 to get more barrels out of the Permian. Potential implication is that we could see US oil production slow down bc there isn't enough DAC!

Noah Smith is paid in the high six-figures to write a blog read by Americans who believe themselves to be intelligent. Yet, he is both unable to read a sign and also for some reason chose to have a 90 minute layover for a flight that takes 90 minutes.

Starting 15 years ago Republicans started applying purity tests, embraced their extreme base and primaried moderate members. Now they are… in charge of three branches of government and doing fine. They are in charge, check it out.

US government shutdowns are generally blamed on the party in power so I’m not sure what the plan is here

“Yup, our economy sucks, worst ever, falling apart”
STEPHANOPOULOS: Are we starting to see a permanent impact on the economy from the shutdown?

BESSENT: It's getting worse and worse. We had a fantastic economy under Trump the last 2 Qs, and now there are estimates that growth this Q could be cut by as much as half. We could end up with shortages.
