Before it became #VeteransDay in the U.S., November 11 was recognized as Armistice Day – the day guns fell quiet on the Western Front in WWI. Among those in baseball who served was Branch Rickey. In 1942, after patriotism swelled in response to Pearl Harbor, he received 3 HoF votes for his service.
