Congratulations to Dr. Gouka 🎉 Last week @lindagouka.bsky.social successfully defended her PhD thesis and has been nominated for the Jan Ritzema Bos prize awarded by the Royal Netherlands Society of Plant Pathology. Linda will continue catching cereal killers as a postdoc in the Cordovez Group👩🏻‍🔬🌾

The field trial preparations are in full swing! Last week, the @niooknaw.bsky.social team (with @vivianecordovez.bsky.social & Jos) and our Danish collaborators, prepared 210 plots, including 840 sticks and more than 1.000 meters of ribbon. Tomorrow, we will start the inoculations! 🌾 Stay tuned 🤞🏽

Back at it 🌾!

Our wheat has grown like crazy in the past few weeks, so today it was time to move them outside. Just a couple more days until they start flowering, and we can perform the final trials before our big field experiment in Denmark. Fingers crossed for a successful trial! 🤞🏽

PhD thesis submitted 🫡✅

I officially handed in my thesis titled ‘Catching cereal killers: a multi-omits approach to disentangle yeast-Fusarium interactions in the phyllosphere’ 🥳. Now it’s up to the committee, while @vivianecordovez.bsky.social and I can fully focus on the field trials!

Last week, we had our biannual MATRIX meeting, primarily discussing the field trials🌾. I’m super excited to head out into the field this June and see if we can fight Fusarium head blight in a sustainable way 🤺. Let’s bring the yeast home!

Here we go again! Repotted our cold-treated wheat to induce early flowering 🌾. One last trial before we head to the fields in Denmark this summer! Unfortunately, our previous cultivars wasn’t available anymore - hoping for the same biocontrol with these new ones 🤞🏽!
