worth applying to politics as well. when you're criticizing an action people take "taking the better action next time" is only one of the alternatives people will consider, and worth remembering that "not bothering at all" is another.
I think about this a lot.

Is there a Go Fund Me (or some equivalent) for the families that were the victims of the Wednesday ICE raids on the apartments in Chicago?

I usually try to be very deliberate about my contributions. In this situation, I'm saying, "Screw that, I want to help those people."

Very Hard times for our HIV team in Uganda. We’ve reduced incidence of new infections by over 90%. We know how to stop transmission and end AIDS. We were close to zero. What we need now is the will. @rhsp-ug.bsky.social #HIV #GlobalHealth #PublicHealth #Uganda #EndAIDS #PEPFAR

This is absolutely monstrous. It needs to be on the front page of every newspaper.
A Lancet preprint estimates that if US funding is cut and not replaced, from 2025-2040 there will be 15.2 mil add'l AIDS deaths, 2.2 mil add'l TB deaths, 7.9 mil add'l child deaths from other causes, and 40-55 mil add'l unplanned pregnancies.

Sen. Van Hollen: "I think Americans are tired of elected officials or politicians who are all finger to the wind...Anybody who can't stand up for the Constitution and the right of due process doesn't deserve to lead."

I've always been one to think more about ethics than honor, but I'm in no mood to forgive those who dishonored my country today. Here you are, you tough-guy posers.

This is *not* the time to restrict our channels of communication. Now particularly we need to be able to goad our representatives into displaying some moral leadership.

Trump just ordered 2 dams opened up in California in an unprecedented move that risks depleting the reservoirs ahead of the dry summer months.

And the kicker? The water from the dams doesn't even flow to Los Angeles.
Acting on Trump's order, federal officials opened up two California dams
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers just opened up two California dams. A spokesperson says the flows are 'controlled' and being coordinated with local officials.

I've chosen Rebecca Solnit tells us:

“[T]he fact that we cannot save everything does not mean we cannot save anything and everything we can save is worth saving."

I've used this quote as the epigraph for this account. My first post is the Fox River at dawn--a photo of something worth saving.
