Allow me to put my tinfoil hat on but I believe Ghost Stories’s English dub is the reason why Funimation’s dub of Crayon Shin-chan turned out the way it did.
• Successful kids anime in Japan
• Funi licensed it a few months after Ghost Stories release in US
• Same bastardized writing/“dark humor”

And one other one - Ghost Stories, in Japan, did not fail in any sense of the word. It was a well-liked kids' show titled Gakkou no Kaidan (literally "School Ghost Stories"), which performed well in the ratings. It's also aged far - FAR better than the foul-mouthed dub ever will.

And in every single case I've found - the "universal experience" people talk about is fundamentally wrong.
- Sailor Moon was huge in Canada
- Dragon Ball Z did super well in syndication
- Funimation killed Crunchyroll and wore its skin
- Cowboy Bebop *was not a failure* in any market

The eye exam is the perfect game design. That big E is a great tutorial that teaches you the basic mechanic. But it doesn't baby you and quickly gets hard as they introduce the small and blurry enemies.

This is extremely true - a bad translation is often worse than no translation at all, because it drastically reduces the chances of ever getting a good translation. And that's generally true for both unofficial AND official translations. There's just no winning with it.
RE mtl, just want to say specifically fan MTL patches for old games are utterly devastating because they are often not noted in directories of fan translations, so actual translators won't give the game a real translation when they see someone else has 'done' it. It fucking sucks.

Here's a kicker though! I didn't start Toradora but I *did* start Bakemonogatari and it sure is an anime and thats all I can think of to summarize my feelings about it currently!

LycoReco shorts have been good so far! Very short episodes but I love seeing little vignettes of Chisato and co.'s shenanigans in Cafe LycoReco after the events of the main anime. If you liked the slice of life aspect of the anime, you'll love these.

most underrated anime of the season imo is a ninja and an assassin under one roof, which is very similar in premise and comedy to kill me baby if you've ever seen that, except with much better animation and some yuri undertones
