Rather than asking what genomic elements co-occur with phenotypic resistance (which we know will likely be resistance genes) we adapted the standard GWAS approach by incorporating a genomic ‘masking’ step prior to association mapping that removes resistance genes and their associated LD regions 3/

Pleased to be presenting this afternoon in the Genetics and Genomics forum at 4pm, come along to hear about genomic relics as an alternative approach to combat MDR E. coli #Microbio24

We found that complete T6SSs were lost from MDR clades of ST410 and ST131 via deletion and insertion events, respectively. The parallel loss of T6SSs in MDR lineages shows that these systems cannot be responsible for the enhanced displacement capabilities of MDR clones. (2/2)

New paper! 📣 We looked at the prevalence of type VI secretion systems (T6SSs) across E. coli and characterised the systems present in renowned MDR lineages ST410 and ST131
