The aluminum used in the construction was called extra super duralumin... I wish I was Joking but no. That's what they call it. Imagine being an engineer at Mitsubishi and having to order 3 tons of "Extra super" duralumin, not just regular duralumin.

She made for a devastating dog fighter outmatching her relatively faster American fighters. Though maneuverable at low speeds her controls locked up at high speeds. techniques were developed to counter the zero and the sacrifices made in construction made her even more vunerable

The design of the Zero was to have a swift and agile fighter to patrol the pacific. Such measures took place to make the zero as agile as possible, such as using flush rivets, or excluding self sealing fuel tanks and armor plates in the design, what use was armor if you don't plan on getting hit?
