almost added it to my novel list cause the stories flow and tie together so seamlessly. for those times when you just need to be hugged by simple, philosophical, melancholic life wisdoms delivered by cats 🥹

breaking free from the titular mom—powerful, goes without saying.

people sharing their personal narratives so frankly and vulnerably is so important. I wish Jennette all the best in her life and I'm excited to see what she does next as a writer!!!!

the memoir and watching subsequent interviews with Jennette actually ended up further shaping my (already grim) views on child stars and the ~celebrity status in general. it made me understand the experience of EDs better than anything before.

now other shoutouts! I actually wasn't familiar with Jennette McCurdy until the hype around when her memoir got released, and now it'll stay with me forever 🩷 I could talk about it for ages, but in a few post character limit:

atla—about a second rewatch 😏; Star Trek yess getting through the series for the first time! TOS was fun but I'm glad to be past some of its 60s-isms and Kirkisms 😀 very excited about TNG (we've just started S2)

❤️! I'm curious about Yaa Gyasi's other novel, Transcendent Kingdom

I adored this novel and the format—each chapter following a different character from two branches of a family tree going back to one Asante woman. they could all easily have their own novels dedicated to them.

clear highlight of 2024 and a rare 5⭐ rating (for fiction) from me

historical sagas ✅ heavy focus on the characters' inner lives ✅ harrowing portrayal of generational trauma and the impact of colonialism ✅
