I like to test little things with AI chatbots sometimes to see if I can pre-empt cheating.

New task I found that they suck at doing—calculating the Tms of primers.
Really: two tested couldn't even count the correct number of bases when I submitted the primer sequences.

No, thats 6Gs, not 5 there.

This is such a cool study. A parasitic ant queen tricks worker ants into murdering their own queen, so the parasite can take over the colony.
This parasitic ant tricks workers into committing matricide
Newly mated parasitic queen ants invade colonies and spray their victims with a chemical irritant that provokes the workers to kill their mother.

Wow, I never really noticed this 'fastp' software. I'm apparently the only one though.

They simply re-used an existing name already employed by popular and historically significant software. How is this kind of thing possible?

I am on my way home to Toronto and the aurorae are absolutely phenomenal.

If you are anywhere in the northern half of the continent, get outside and look up! Or better still, put your camera on a 10 second exposure and point it up.

Mini marsupial bounces back from the brink!

Once listed as Endangered, the crest-tailed mulgara expanded its range by more than 48,000 km² between 2015 and 2021, lifting its status to Least Concern. Biocontrol contributed to the heartwarming bounce-back.

Related but cool combo of cytogenetics and phenotype. Know when the first QTL was mapped?
