This is what I hoped for, Recs! “Jules et Jim” was my number 12, then “The 400 Blows,” and “The Miracle of Morgan’s Creek,” and “La Règle du Jeu”… I’m now adding Mohicans and Ambersons to my watchlist—ta! Did I mention “My Man Godfrey”?

One of my top…15? My top three are 1)Cabaret 2)The Lady Eve and 3)Casablanca. After that maybe: 4)Moonstruck 5)The Graduate 6)Harold and Maude 7)Notorious 8)Ballad of a Soldier (Chukhrai) 9) I Know Where I’m Going 10)Withnail and I 11) McCabe and Mrs. Miller (etc etc). I’d love to know your top 10…

And?? Did you like it? Isn’t it distinct and marvelous? (I do always FF/skip the long whirlpool scene). Martin Scorsese became a filmmaker largely because of Powell & Pressburger’s movies—there’s a new documentary out about this that I can’t wait to see, called “ Made in England.”

And?? Did you like it? Isn’t it distinct and marvelous? (I do always FF/skip the long whirlpool scene). Martin Scorsese became a filmmaker largely because of Powell & Pressburger’s movies—there’s a new documentary out about this that I can’t wait to see, called “ Made in England.”
