Having said that - I did have a very short-lived career as a cartoonist in the fifth grade when I started “Mariam” about a Muslim American kid’s life (based on real events). If hard to read, check the alt text. And apologies in advance.

After [several seconds of] backbreaking labor, this is the harvest. Whew. Time for a nap.

But wait, what’s this? A nest of recluse nightshade berries, green as my thumb isn’t.

First we have these very very late bloomers - makes me wonder if I need to get a greenhouse for late season tomatoes. Just kidding I’m too lazy.

You bloomed too late in the season, but you fought valiantly in the narrow bed of unfertilized filler dirt. May we all flourish despite the clay that holds our feet fast, and the walls that pin our limbs in place. #VolunteerTomatoDeepThoughts

Islamophobes on the other site keep sending me this AI of the Statue of Liberty, not knowing they were being purists not alarmists.

It’s an A frame sign so it would be propped open like this one. But much taller than this example.

Based on the map and age I believe this was a marquee used in the Tivoli theater. Although the Tivoli Theatre outlasted its downtown competitors and weathered the rise of television in the 50s, it slowly fell into decline. Then a devastating flood in 1976 forced the theater to close.

Zooming in I noticed all these pinholes. But they’re bumpy, meaning pinned from the other side. So…. I opened the frame and flipped the board around.

I think this 6ft tall marquee sign was from the early 50s b/c you’ll note how Marilyn Monroe is listed as a headliner but she had a much smaller role in 1948’s Ladies of the Chorus. The lettering is on a piece of cardboard, meant to be continuously replaced, so how did it survive this long?
