Nothing like making French onion soup at 7 am!
People think this was always a really fancy, bougie soup - but in reality, it's peasant food. You need beef stock - easily made from beef bones, super cheap then; onions; thyme; butter or oil; a splash of wine.
All easy peasant stuff.

Good morning!
Nothing like making French onion soup at 7 am!

Sunshine today, but still only 38 degrees outside, with a breeze.
Chickens came out today - at least some of them. Making soup base out of the remains of a rotisserie chicken, and then bread, chili and French onion soup for tomorrow to feed my food bank crew and then anyone else who wants some.

Former Coloradoan - was never able to go myself, but knew people who did - it makes amazing things happen. Do it if you can.
As an example: the last time I caucused for a candidate, there were three people there for my district. We were electing five representatives. Me showing up, by myself, got two reps for the candidate I was caucusing for.

Oh and just a reminder: elected US officials are supposed to represent Americans, not lead them.

How I know I have really good neighbors; I just got a message asking if we had enough firewood to get through this cold snap - they'd have brought it to me this evening, no charge.
I thanked them, and said no - we have enough, but it feels good that others are looking out for each other.

OK- now the cold is starting to move in. Just a touch - heavy clouds, 10 degrees cooler, but that wind is bringing a bite to it.

So beautiful outside right now; sunny, light breeze, 63 degrees.
You wouldn't know that tonight it will be 28 degrees, a high of 32 tomorrow, a low of 23 tomorrow.
But it works well for us today as husband winter preps the coops, and I split firewood and fill the woodbox.

The others have said it all - it's a thread worth reading.
The ancient Romans were extremely proud of ending this practice and it was also bad then. They also thought it was incredibly barbaric that it was widespread in Carthage. And this isn't just their accounts, we have extensive evidence this was true.
