Just a person you know, you know?
On May 2, 2025, the Trump Administration released its FY2026 federal budget proposal.

On page 39 he calls for the complete elimination of the only federal agency dedicated solely to supporting America’s libraries and museums.

If you're pursuing (and especially if you've already received!) #PSLF loan forgiveness, we could use your comments on this regulation. Even a quick note saying something in support would be useful!

This, by the by, is an effing disaster if it holds up. The number of public libraries that will go under if IMLS is shuttered is mind-boggling. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

Project 2025 is trying to shut down the DoE. They're trying to do the same thing (on a smaller scale) by eliminating the IMLS. Why would they want to get rid of the teachers and the librarians? (Because they don't want voters to think for themselves, that's why).

This is such a huge loss the country, and it just makes NO sense.
18F, the federal government’s technology shop, was demolished by Musk’s team shortly after midnight. It was a cost-recoverable org, charging agencies for their expertise, using a consulting model. Its cost to government was negligible, its benefits huge. My team there once saved DoD $500 billion.

Absolutely this.

And libraries are defence against anything that limits access to knowledge - including changes in people’s material and economic circumstances.

Our most radically inclusive and robust institutions.
So it turns out that compared to centralized distribution of digital information on the web, printed material in libraries provided a kind of distributed defense against the casual whims of an authoritarian government aiming to rewrite history.

It's about time! Nice to see some good news.
Beyoncé wins the biggest award of the night: album of the year for “Cowboy Carter.” This is her first win in the category.

Well, after a few days of this news cycle, I'm reinstating my Trump Presidency news consumption rules. I'll read the WTF newsletter, call my rep, and move on with my life. Once a day, every day.

I shouldn't have to see that jackhole's face just to keep up with the news. #thanksmatt
