The KY Senate has a new plaque on the former desk of Sen. Johnnie Turner, a Republican who represented Eastern KY. He died last year due to injuries from an accident, leading to write-in candidate Scott Madon winning his seat.

Looks like final vote on SB 89 is 69-26. From what I can tell, seven Republicans join Democrats in opposing. Senate would still need to concur to the changes

In a letter today, KY Energy & Environment Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Goodman says the cabinet still has "grave concerns" about a bill limiting state regulation of water pollution. This is as GOP changed SB 89 to address groundwater pollution, changes environmental groups say are wholly inadequate.

Nearly two decades ago, David “Bud” Morris’ death in a Harlan Co. coal mine spurred a safety protection for miners. His son Landen was a baby when he died.

The KY Senate Natural Resources & Energy Committee is underway this morning, on the agenda: SB 89. It would limit the waters regulated by the state to the federal standard, weakened by a Supreme Court ruling. One former state attorney has described the bill as a "catastrophe" for the water quality.

House approves HB 1 by a vote of 90-7, with some of the minority of Democrats joining GOP in advancing the bill.

Some Dems expressed concern over future implications of cutting into income tax rate, while GOP leaders touted the continued reduction of taxes.

FWIW, President Joe Biden in a @theprospect.bsky.social essay says a prospective aluminum smelter KY has been vying for "will be built in Kentucky, powered entirely by clean energy."
