Avidly knitting science teacher with a sweet tooth and snarky sense of humor.
I think it says you live someplace where it hasn’t actually gotten cold enough to switch out to a real parka!

Corollary to that is a decline in watching full length video media: either hour long documentaries or movies. My high school students are gobsmacked when expected to watch a NOVA. And my younger colleagues consider anything longer than 6 minutes to be losing the students’ focus. 🙄

I will throw out there that men get a ton of crap thrown at them if they stay home with the kids!

Even if it’s just for an afternoon, men still are often referred to as “babysitting” instead of “parenting”.

That drove my husband up the wall!

“My agency will send good reporters when there is a good president to cover. Meanwhile, here we are. Anyway, your answer to the question?”

I’ve taught at middle, high and college level. Confounding an assignment to demonstrate analysis of existing data with an opinion piece is sadly not unusual. It is a mix of disrespect for the learning process and entitled laziness. “Why should I have to demonstrate skills to earn a grade?!”

Yes. Often, students at secondary and higher levels don’t read/pay attention to the instructions of an assignment, just hear the title and slop out a quick draft. And decide for themselves what should be “good enough”.

Oil equipment has been in place in Alaska for long time. That is hardly a new concern.

Actually, I am unwilling to yield even such a list because it results in entire classrooms having to choose between open access to books or implementing the logistics of parsing access. That extra administrative effort implements another barrier to a teacher’s choice of curriculum.

You ask for a reasonable compromise. They do not. They want to control access to ideas. And if the ideas are in the school, they may have to deal with their kids getting exposed. They consider themselves entitled to avoidance, and other parents can deal with giving their kids those at home. 🙄

Because they know that their kids would then want to know what it is other kids are accessing, but is forbidden to them. They would simply have friends check those books out for them.

Realy cool!

Then in 2019, he had s college class looking at science communication. He was disappointed that the example they gave was to make a scientific research topic “able to be understood by your mom”. 🙄

My son had this task in elementary school in 2010 (or so). He was the only boy to draw a woman. His teacher scoffed that it was different since his mom was a scientist. That made me mad… that’s exactly how representation works!

Still a bit peeved about it, actually.

Terrifying stupidity.

But also a bit disturbed at the tone implicit in the comments that the number of men to be murdered is also the number of people who would be fighting back. Ummm… all the women would be combatants too.

And I was so stunned, I couldn’t type straight! Oh well…

Wow… NYT at ling last found the phase “Fact Checking Trump…” to put in a headline. Wouldn’t it be great to also just call them lies?

And wouldn’t of been great to have done this long time ago?
