- in blender 4.3, the texture and sculpt brushes have been overhauled, you'll lose custom brushes in old projects
- picture 1 = new rendering settings you can tweak one by one, including performance ones!
- use mirror modifier as long as you can :)
- shader nodes + grease pencil = classic 2D looks 😀

not promo, but if it helps in the future, i made candles too. i didn't model the actual flame like you did, i used planes (painted the flames in another software) and for the wax used subsurface scattering, so if you're interested, maybe use a combination of techniques for a look you like :)

srsly tho, side note, you have to combine grease pencil with shader nodes. so the first one doesn't look 2d, but the second one does, and the third one is a picture of the shader nodes used in conjunction with grease pencil

on my current model, i'm on clothes, which all have to be seperately unwrapped and textured 😭 but the animation process gives me so much dopamine that it's all worth it :P

this is what animation-ready models look like for me. their clothes overlap so on import i can just delete what i don't need.

modeling fire in #blender using videos instead of simulations or geometry nodes looks nice but takes a lot of fiddling to get right

update: i've textured and rigged him :) while i'm waiting for feedback from peeps in real life, i'm going to give him shapekeys 👍🏾🙌🏾 i'm getting faster at modeling, from 3 weeks to like 3 days, next model i'm timing myself because i have a LOT to go!

it gets mad because it wants grey food, but will take yellow too. So I feed a "Shader to RGB" node instead (takes green gives yellow). Then I multiply an RGB by the abomination I just created so it can look pretty in engine and I can clap my hands and sleep early.

Here's an example from files I'm working on of a simple shader node setup, a medium setup, and a more advanced one. In the medium setup (custom toon shader), I started by just feeding our "Material Output" a "Diffuse BSDF" (green) node. This is a super basic shader node.
