Detroit - Toronto
A few I haven't seen across everyone's lists...

Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes - Black and Blue
Al Green - Gets Next to You
Gap Band - II or III (depending on technicality of their debut, either are superb)
Spinners (self titled)
Cheap Trick - Heaven Tonight
Broken Social Scene (self titled)

Big thanks to @danthecritic.bsky.social for the Beverley Skeete entry, really enjoyed it!

Hi Tom, I likely didn't specify this with my nomination of Stevie's Do I Do but could it please be the LP version off of Original Musiquarium I? We really need that Dizzy solo in this competition.

The Message was going to be my main until I noticed Do I Do from 82 was nowhere to be found on any submissions. Incredible it wasn’t a main and I’m really curious if it will end up being the winner of this poll.

Did George Duke surface on any bonuses? Could be mistaken I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen him on our late 70s or early 80s polls either. Not a lot of quiet storm noms either if I remember correctly… Quincy, Ingram, Peabo, Roberta

I remember lamenting that as well during the 85 poll and I did the exact same thing this time around.

100% the full with Dizzy! 👍

Incredibly late again with these my apologies! Hoping there’s still time…

Main: Tina Turner - Better Be Good To Me (1984)
Stevie Wonder - Do I Do (1982)
Al Jarreau - Mornin’ (1983)
Alexander O’Neal - If You Were Here Tonight (1985)
Bonus: World’s Famous Supreme Team - Hey DJ (1984)

After reviewing 1982 I'm convinced we could hold a poll just on this year alone and have a satisfactory result + incredible discoveries.

This much is true.

No surprise I really enjoyed this after a similar month of listening and reflecting on the songs and the doc. Always appreciate your thoughtful perspective on music!

First time in a while following one of these from start to finish, a pleasure as always @tomewing.bsky.social - sliding another virtual pint of thanks across the Atlantic to you - cheers!

@tomewing.bsky.social tip of the cap btw, not sure if you sequenced it deliberately but the transition between the close out of "Going Down Slowly" into Frampton's "Show Me The Way" intro on the Day 7 plalylist is a beauty!

Couldn't agree more.... this PS banger was written by Allen Toussaint but for me this song is about Wah Wah Watson of the Funk Bros who is seemingly everywhere (he is also featured on notables Papa Was a Rolling Stone, Let's Get It On, Car Wash, I Will Survive, Bros Johnson + Q too)
