Long ago I volunteered at a state park, keeping trails clear and offering directions to those trying to find their way. Buildings like this one—the Tekαkαpimək Contact Station in Maine’s Katahdin Woods & Waters National Monument—importantly orient park-goers to nearby landmarks and the landscape.
