I have just published a book on the philosophy of grief.
Given the way the world is with new wars and 'climate grief' among other crises, I figured it was time to reappraise the idea of grief.
'Plato's Remedy' is available in ebook everywhere

Why Americans tolerate the level of utter cruelty the healthcare insurance system inflicts is beyond me. Anything less than medicare for all is barbaric.

The tacit acknowledgement here by saying Grok is the "least woke" is that all AI is hugely biased and is programmed with specific goals in mind and that it's shit and no one shouldn't use it.
JD Vance: "I'm a Grok guy. I think it's the best. It's also the least woke."

I met my wife and some of my best friends through Vine. Had some of the greatest times of my life because of that app. And even I think this a stupid and bad idea.
Vine is being rebooted under the name diVine, with funding from Twitter’s former CEO Jack Dorsey.

The app plans to feature more than 10,000 previously archived Vines and does not allow AI-generated content.

Watching these people trying to equivocate on some of the most heinous shit humans are capable of spells out the rot at heart of these people and their fascist movement. Deeply sick individuals promoting profoundly evil acts.

The new Steam Gamecube feels like an answer to a question no one asked. A bridge between console and PC that is basically the best and worst of both worlds. Along with xBox's collapse in the gaming sphere, being a happy console player means you have a lot fewer options today.

I am convinced a large part of the Anti-Trans movement is led by these vile people because they don't want to be "tricked" when they find a woman (or a child in Epstein's case) they wish to abuse. Just sick, deluded men, hoping the "female" they perv over is anatomically "correct" by their standards
these are the same people that want to repeatedly inspect your childs genitals btw

This got less press than Mamdani's campaign but another socialist in power in a major American city is another massive political shift. Very happy to hear this.
Katie Wilson has won the election to be the next Mayor of Seattle. (Seattle Times)

Big win, squeaked it at the last.

Only read it within the last few years but 'Hiroshima' radicalised me in a way I didn't know I could be
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

This a big deal: "China’s carbon dioxide emissions have been flat or falling for 18 months"

China's economy has grown by ~5% in the last year, so this comprehensively debunks the idea (again) that emissions are tied to growth. So yes, faster progress needed, but this is how you turn the corner.

Dear @netflix.com a game about bugs just made a fortune. Please do something with the Redwall license. It would make a fortune. Or if you don't want to, sell to someone who will.

"I don't care about the next James Bond. He kills for country queen and god. We don't need another muderous toff." And by the sounds of these writers it's going to be shit whatever happens.
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

I honestly don’t get the value of this company. They hoover up energy and water. Their product constantly gets things wrong and, in extreme cases, coaches people into suicide.

And it’s all built on what seems to be malicious and vast intellectual property theft.

What does OpenAI offer the world?

Was in a bookstore today and saw a dude in shorts sat on a footstool in the philosophy section reading Aurelius' "Meditations". I wanted to point at any of the hundred books behind him that would speak to his experiences far better, but then realised he wasn't actually reading the book. So I didn't.

OVER A MILLION USERS

DISCUSS SUICIDE WITH CHATGPT

EVERY *WEEK*

what the fuck are we DOING here
Panera’s moderately caffeinated lemonade was loosely associated with 2 deaths before it was taken off market.

This article alone has 4 examples of ChatGPT encouraging young people to commit suicide, and OpenAI’s own public stats estimate over a million users discuss suicide with ChatGPT each week.
I fully believe in the corporate death penalty and believe we would be a better world if OpenAI lost its corporate charter and was forcibly dissolved.
