Well howdy, old friend.

Thank you! I’m feeling better already being in my own home.

Thank you. Unfortunately you might have noticed that I broke my leg at the end of this trip. Probably won’t get any interesting photos for a little while.

My dear friend Andrew said it best when he told me that I’m living the 𝙗𝙚𝙨𝙩 Coyote timeline. It sure seems that way.

The other angle shows the two bolts that hold together the bottom part of the titanium rod.

I’m feeling very well, and I hopefully will start walking on crutches tomorrow. I’m very much looking forward to getting up again and being able to move around. Laying in bed for days on end is tedious.

The attached image shows my tibia as it was x-rayed upon arrival at the hospital. As soon as I am able I will post an x-ray showing the repaired fracture.

It reminded me of a thing my mother used to tell me with all seriousness…

“Ron, if in life you can’t set a good example for others, l at least you can serve as a horrible warning.”

(I think I got my sense of humor from my mother.)

It seems like so many things in my life could’ve gone very badly, but somehow they always manage to be a lesson.

While I was waiting in the dirt on the side of the road there were many cars and scooters who drove by and stopped with concern.

I will keep people informed after the operation, but I wanted you to know what happened and I didn’t want you to worry about me. There’s nothing to worry about, I’m in good hands with the Thai medical system, and Jackky is taking very good care of me & by my side.

The damage could’ve been much worse, including possibly spinal damage or death. Once again I feel like I’ve been blessed… A situation that could’ve been really tragic is not all that bad.

It is kind of amazing that a complex fracture of the tibia is all that happened. I have a very good helmet and I I’m happy that I had the foresight to invest in that level of protection. Otherwise I was simply in shorts and a button down linen shirt.

The abbot also tried to get a government helicopter to fly me directly to Bangkok, but he was not able to arrange it. He really cares for Jackky and I. I really appreciated it. (For those who don’t know, he is the man who married Jackky & I.).

Jackky has been really good about taking care of me, He arranged with his cousin the abbot to take my moto down from the mountain. It was remarkably unharmed, basically just a few cracked pieces of plastic.

Now I’m waiting for the van to take me there, it will be about a six hour ride. Maybe less. Once I get there I will have to come to go an operation which will probably involve inserting pins into the bones. Then there will be a few days recuperation in the hospital before I can fly home to Bangkok.

After a long discussion, we decided to continue on to Chiang Mai, which has a private hospital (Bangkok Hospital) and better facilities.
February 6, 2025 at 6:52 AM
I waited there laying in the dirt for about an hour till the ambulance arrived, and then I was taking another an hour ride down the mountain town of Mae Hong Son. The hospital here is a government hospital, which means it provides basic services.

Thankfully it did not penetrate the skin, but the bone was very clearly broken. My first broken leg! Yay, a new experience! 😏
February 6, 2025 at 6:51 AM
The moto continued the flip & landed on his wheels. At some point, probably during the upside down part, I fell off the moto.

When the world had stopped moving around me i took a quick assessment, I was mostly OK, but it was very obvious that the bone was sticking up out of my lower left leg.
