Came here to say this (but less well).

“She also discovered, after rigorous research, that the welfare system is so called because it is well fair, a finding which Ms Badenoch…”

The old “Stupid or liar?” question arises with most populist political chat nowadays and…I genuinely can’t imagine being that stupid.

Unless there’s some astonishing data out there “foreign student” basically means “cash cow”, doesn’t it?!

People’s opinions being led by other people who literally make money out of having to have something to say on a daily basis is never gonna make for reasonable thoughts.

There’s actually just not that much sensible stuff to say about one football club every day/week.

Every new manager is a gamble but I feel Poch would be a dumb gamble that has far less chance of working than many other appointments we could make. He was the future 12 years ago but not any more.

As illiterate morons try to unpick civilized society through a profound lack of understanding it seems *so* obvious to me that the fashy infants are the weak men that good times created.

I remember when there was a discussion on Twitter about Shein's manufacturing practices and some apologists invented all sorts of fantastical machinery and technology to avoid facing the more horrifying truth. Reminds me of this comedian's joke.

On short stories over novels: you know what’s even shorter? Poetry. Nothing other art form comes close for potential density of experience. Everyone could get so much from 10 mins of reading (and rereading) a poem.

(Of course bad poetry can give you an experience of density which is less welcome).

I am 100% in agreement re how we think of male or white or whatever as defaults and this is harmful.

It’s just worth bearing in mind that making the NBA the MNBA would involve creating a rule that currently does not exist (although would have no impact if it were created).
November 18, 2025 at 9:53 PM
I understand your point and maybe you’re correct that banning women from the NBA will be useful but in light of the last decade I’m very skeptical of claims that micro-managing things like this brings a more fair, sensible world.

So…you’re a bot?

There doesn’t need to be a category for men. Things don’t have to be exactly symmetrical to be fair. Women needed their own category. Why ban them from the NBA?

I get the disinclination of have the men’s thing the default in many areas but not here.

Yes but could we not spend a few years investigating what the words “justified”, “true” and “belief” mean so that we can finally be really sure what knowledge is? I think this time the definitions of those words won’t simply be more words. We’re good this time. Surely.

There is no MNBA because, as with most American sports, there is no “men’s” category. It’s an open category which women technically could play in. The WNBA is exclusively for women, however.

I eventually made a post with @ Bluesky in it complaining about all the furry and gay porn and…it all went away!

I guess MAGA don’t know about the Bluesky algorithm cos if I were them it’d be right up there as a sign of the degeneracy of The Libs. It’s just so weird that this is a common issue.

There should be a name for this format of online exchange:

Person 1: X was rare but is not now so Y is now easier
Person 2: Lol! Lots of people (still a vanishingly tiny percentage) did X
Person 1: yes but now X is *much* easier and more available.
Person 2: lol! X isn’t the only component! Wtf?!
November 16, 2025 at 5:37 PM
Okay, I see I may not get anywhere here.

I said “travel is vastly quicker, cheaper and easier now” to show *one* component of how migration is much easier now. You said “lol! A tiny number of people did travel far in the past” so I responded to that one single point.

I’ll leave it there I think.
November 16, 2025 at 5:20 PM
Some people in history did indeed move quite far. I’m going to travel as far as Marco Polo did in a couple of days. It’s going to take me a few hours, cost me half a week’s wages, millions of others will do the same and no one will write a book about it.
November 16, 2025 at 4:28 PM
Well yeah but for most of human history did virtually anyone have the capacity to go further than a few miles from their home? Obviously people now can travel further, faster and for cheaper. If people are able to move more they will (and they are, aren’t they?).
