Peaceful use of chemicals, but against their use as weapons
The new DG has just been officially appointed. There was quite a long applause following the appointment, I guess States Parties are looking forwards to her starting.

Brasil do not want to reinstate Syria's rights and privileges in relation to the OPCW.

The delegation of 'New Syria' speaks. Have dealt with the aftermath of the use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime.

This is really good news.
The critical thinking required for this will also help in traditional subjects.
School pupils are to be taught how to tackle conspiracy theories, spot 'fake news' & root out misinformation. The Daily Mail, ajudged by Wikipedia to be an unreliable new source, is furious. You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to work out why.

Interesting post. Whilst reading I couldn't help but think that people hold their own certainty of someone's guilt to much lower standards than they hold institutions.
I've written a lot about disordered discourse and counterpublics, but given recent events I want to cover a key part of disordered discourse, which I call the four pillars of disordered doubt.

It is incredibly disappointing that there is no (that I can see) engagement from the labour government on Bluesky. Perhaps if they did, they would not be led by the Twitter bots.
@rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social Why are so few Labour MPs on bluesky? those that are aren't posting? Bluesky is the natural home for Democrats + those on the centre left as well as the left. You need a presence on both platforms because most of us on Bluesky left X when Musk bought the US election.

For several years, I've used a VPN. I connected to the UK earlier and was asked to do age verification. I did the facial recognition option.... I was too far away, then not silly enough and then my face wasn't in the frame even though it was..... then it seemed to work

I hope this doesn't fall on deaf ears.
Europe's actions, as a whole, could have been stronger, sooner and our objectives need to move past just slowing Russia down and playing for time.
Europe has the capacity and opportunity to cripple Russia and significantly reduce the threat posed to the continent if its states can coordinate their efforts. But the window of opportunity is closing, warns Jack Watling in the latest RUSI Commentary.

Very succinct analysis of one of the biggest challenges facing democratic societies today and a route to a potential solution
🧵 I often talk about VDA, Verification, Deliberation, Accountability, as the core functions that make democracy possible. But to understand what’s gone wrong, we need to look at how those functions have changed.

Today, a large majority of the Dutch Parliament supported my proposal to recognize the 1944 deportation of the Crimean Tatar people by the Soviet Union as an act of genocide, and calls on the Dutch government to encourage other European countries to do the same.

Am I the only one who sees very little difference in the rhetoric, policies and principles between the Conservatives and Reform?
Reform is "another left wing party" says Kemi Badenoch

I don't know whether Musk is trying to implement an ideology or sees this as an investment which will give a return; either way, follow the money, as always.
“When I asked her where the funding was coming from for this she was initially cagey but then admitted that most was coming from Elon Musk. I witnessed Tory MSs talking with this pair.”

Makes a lot of sense....
What Labour should be doing is creating a new narrative about immigration - about welcoming people who make a contribution but reducing the numbers who don't.

Pretending to be super tough pisses off liberals and won't be believed by Reform voters.

Can anyone help?
Can anyone recommend any articles or books which go into the tactical deployments of Russian forces during the first year or so of the full scale invasion of Ukraine?

Interesting, for sure....
Be interesting to see what the pro Trump Conservative MPs who are vehement supporters of Ukraine have to say tomorrow.

Will there be a discreet removal of Ukraine flags from their bios?

Will they suddenly discover the virtues of “land annexation for peace?”

Whilst I understand that some people are always looking for the conspiracy, such people have no place in roles where analytical thinking and logical assessment of information are key.
