LLMs only have em-dashes because *actual living writers* have used them for 100+ years.
LLMs use them because *we used them first* and they stole them *to sound like real writers.*

I am annoyed by those who claim I and other writers should avoid using emdashes because generative AI has co-opted them.
They serve a purpose, along with the semi-colon and colon. They allow for cadence changes and variety in punctuation.
