We got gen-AI dubs from Amazon and gen-AI subs from Crunchyroll, but if you torrent a fansub that real people worked to translate, code, and stylize, you're the piece of shit.

The only thing less human than these AI dub performances is the decision to sign off on them

A company this big can pay human actors a decent wage, not produce slop that intentionally removes the human element.

This shit is why I'm getting less and less work on anime and having to scramble to ask around with YouTubers for help letting me do their CCs just to pay my damn rent. There's enough anime to caption out there that I should not be fucking struggling.
After publishing this article, I've heard from many that CR seems to be using AI to produce dub CCs. Now, thanks to a slip-up CR had with episode 6 dub of The Banished Court Magician, we can say that with 100% certainty: Crunchyroll is using the AI service Ollang.com for its dub closed captions!

So there's no wonder, savvy? You don't get to think about what the thought process into making something like it was, because no thinking happened. LLMs are just a more expensive, less effective, and just as rotten form of Group Focus Testing for movies and prestige television.

If I find out after-the-fact that those things were made with Gen AI (LLMs...what-have-you,) then those questions don't have answers to think through. There was no "How" and "Why." The LLM just plugged-in a random, but statistically common, piece of data it took from a collection of it.

When I interact with media, I like to think about "How" and "Why." Character designs I think, "I wonder why they went with this look." Dialogue I think, "this is really well-paced, how did they make that happen?" I am interested in knowing how the human being that worked on this did it.

The original Let It Die was famous for its absolutely amazing soundtrack. Akira Yamaoka went and got in touch with a HUNDRED of his favourite indie bands and commissioned each to do a track named 'let it die'. The result was borderline mystical.

They're AI-generating the music here.

Fuck that.
The Let it Die sequel - Let it Die: Inferno - which is coming out next week (4th December), seems to have been built using a considerable amount of generative AI. https://bit.ly/4ol7lIA

People need to keep pushing until payment processors fuck off on the puritanical BS. It is sickening how they would rather lose a huge chunk of their userbase over something harmless. These people depend on Paypal for their careers, Paypal is actively fucking over everyone for, literally, no reason.
I'm devastated, if I don't find an alternative that works with argentinians I'm contemplating the worst, I can't do regular jobs, art was my job for around 15 years

I'm old.

If you're not, listen to this.

Get a guitar or some drums, or a trumpet. Pick up a brush, a pencil, some clay or a welder.

Just make shit. It doesn't have to be good (eventually it will be) just make music, art or write or whatever.

It's literally never been more important.

i take frenzy damage every time i see someone go "well i just use it for the boring stuff". what are you TALKING about? if it's boring or unimportant, why are you putting it in? NPC dialogue is fertile ground for worldbuilding, creating verisimilitude, conveying important information, and hijinks!!
Buy a solo indie dev's game because I want to support them.

Find out it uses OpenAI to write "non-important NPC dialogue".

Reminder that removing planned obsolescence and creating modular, open, standards-based tech that is repairable and made to last is one of the goals of "degrowth".

People wont be poorer with good, efficient tech. You just wont be get the bloated growth figures of continually expanding consumption.
there has been no meaningful improvement in the devices or their functionality in 10 years in any way that affects what any normal person uses them to do, people only switch when forced updates cause a device which worked fine yesterday to lag so bad you can't type at full speed until you replace it
