I see a lot of people asking this question, and I want to give a full answer for people who might be encountering this from the disability justice perspective for the first time. 🧵

I think most people who have watched someone suffer a slow and painful death can understand the ideal here.
Is it really not possible to legalize assisted suicide only for terminally ill patients in a way that doesn’t endanger other disabled people from the misapplication for eugenics

The US "pro-life" movement has the blood of American mothers on their hands. Dozens of doctors also complicit in yet another crime of neglect against a Black woman patient.

Walker is one of several women ProPublica found with underlying health conditions who died when they couldn’t access abortions.

is NY prop 1 going to fail because people in the city were too lazy to Google it or am I missing something

The person who did this is an asshole. Using this space for convenience when no wheelchair user is on the train is understandable, but not making any effort to remove it when I boarded (IN MY WHEELCHAIR) is just disregard for my safety and the safety of those nearby.

Any first-past-the-post voting system gives undue influence to the media and unreliable pollsters. This jungle primary stuff is just Trumpian backlash to Mamdani's historic victory in the RCV primary, in which a majority of Democratic voters expressed a preference for Zohran over NYT #1 sellout A.C.

I’ve read a lot of research on air conditioning, heat waves, and mortality, and there’s extremely strong consensus among actual experts about “we need to expand global access to air conditioning at the same time as we engage in other sustainable measures, like better architecture and green spaces.”

NYT is such a fucking rag. have you considered that the only reason people are scared that Mamdani is an antisemite is because you keep printing headlines that go "is he an antisemite?"

Air conditioning is an absolutely vital life-saving technology on a swiftly-warming planet, and people who claim it's somehow more shameful to cool a home than it is to heat one are idiots.

I wrote this a few years ago and still stand by it:

Climate Change Demands More Air Conditioning
An often-disparaged technology is a lifesaver, not a luxury.

A pretty! and useful! mayoral voting breakdown card made by @gregpak.net

Don’t. Rank. Cuomo.

I'm ranking Brad Lander, Zohran Mamdani, Adrienne Adams, Jessica Ramos, and Scott Stringer.

REMIND YOUR FRIENDS TO VOTE, and to rank 5 non Cuomo candidates. The 2021 primary was decided by less than 8000 votes, and the runner up was not who I expected!

New Yorkers, this is a great new tool to help remind people of all the reasons that Andrew Cuomo should never be elected to anything for the rest of his life. Everything here is real

I don't say I'm "in a wheelchair" because people think that means wheelchair users never get out of their wheelchair. This is a true fact. I've been asked if I sleep and shower in my wheelchair before.

5 people have died in the last 3 months at Riker's Island, and Kathy Hochul is holding the budget hostage trying to keep innocent people there LONGER.

In protest movements, as in life, you need to start seeing whatever privilege you have as a strategic asset that can be used and shared.

people can read books and stuff, but you can't "educate yourself" if you don't know what you don't know.

what we have right now online is education by algorithm. for some people this means really great progressive content produced by brilliant people. but we know that's not the majority.

Can't you guys just eat less eggs? I'm sincerely confused by the egg situation. I know prices are high in general, but bird flu is its own specific thing.

I find liberal pro-science/pro-expert rhetoric extremely off-putting, both as someone who is engaged in research on a daily basis, and as someone who has experienced the epistemic violence that experts and scientists do still engage in pretty often.

Some of you are never going to get tired of arguing about how much you're allowed to hate people who are varying levels of complicit in whatever crimes are happening.

I want to state clearly what has been obvious to me since I was about 12 years old:

The pro-Israel lobby (which contains people of all religions) combats anti-Israel--and indeed, pro-Palestinian--speech, protests, and solidarity by making spurious claims of antisemitism and persecution.

A new McCarthy era is upon us. Stupid, depressing, and dangerous as ever. I wonder whose name will carry the dunce cap in the history books. Too many are complicit. I’ll need to find upset and action, but for now I’m feeling grief at the dehumanization inherent to all this.

It's interesting that when non disabled writers try to think about disability justice, they so often get bogged down in the question of "what constitutes a disability", rather than asking "what constitutes justice."
