This is worth talking about.

Effectively, independent authors could have royalties siphoned off them to pay other authors from Audible.

It's taken me the best part of four days to do, but I used my leave from work to power through and finish the edit on my latest novel.

Hopefully going to keep those at the writing group entertained as they workshop it. Then, onto another round of edits before submitting to an agent.

Yeah so I've been feeling a sort of way.
Look this is long but I've put pictures in it and it is full-velocity me throwing my toys out the pram territory so you should at least find that amusing, okay?

I wish I’d written a bad story - E.M. Faulds Scottish science fiction and fantasy author
Warning for high salt-content. I'm tired. I'm not the only one. I was discussing with a fellow author this morning, about how it feels like the Hunger Games* out there. Authors scrabbling and brawling...

I'm very happy to say I've managed to get back to writing and finish off what has become a Novelette. The Dredging of Lamia is a dark tale for a dark time, exploring the "real" reason of the abandonment of Whitby Abbey in 899AD.
Think of it as medieval Dracula with a very, very unexpected twist!

Day one at Cymera
I think it's going to start with a good bit of sightseeing. I'm currently eating breakfast next door to Arthur's Seat.

Hope to see some familiar faces through the weekend 😊

Busy on the editing front. had some great feedback to help me with a scene I'm struggling to get just right. Onwards.

In other news, I've just booked to go to Cymera. Lineup looks good and, as always, a chance to meet up with dear friends.

Anyone else heading up?

1,600 words written on my short story.

It's more of a slog than expected, because I'm already over the word limit, and I'm a plotter, not a pantser, so as the character is exploring dark tunnels with no light source and no clue where they are going, I am metaphorically doing the same!

I saw a few reading bingo cards doing the rounds and thought it would be fun to come up with a BFS one! How many of these can you mark off in 2025?

All of this post. Up and down. Read it and then go buy books that aren't written by the megasuperstar authors to shape the direction of publishing for the next few years. If readers show publishing that they actually love weird books, they'll get more interesting cross-genre fabulousness.
Getting a lot of "I tried that, but Game of Thrones, Wheel of Time and Kingkiller ruined me!" replies.

Pull up a chair and I'll explain how publishing works.
I know others have said this, but if you love a series, BUY THE BOOKS AS THEY COME OUT. You can go on a reading spree later, but for the love of god, buy the books now.

It's taken me a full day to do, but I've managed to sort out all my Lord of the Rings Cards into a much more manageable state. A few hundred hours of gameplay, there!

Just watched a Korean martial arts film from 2001 called The Warrior (A.k.a Musa The Warrior). I went in with low expectations, but it turned out to be pretty damn great. Highly recommend watching it if that's your thing

On my way to do some volunteering at my local park. I was at a works do last night until 12.30 and now I feel really groggy. If I'd have known I'd have been this bad, I'd have had a drink so at least I could be merry

Genuine question here from someone probably as concerned as you about AI and creativity: How do you see this all playing out? Reason I ask is because I feel like the genie is out of the bottle and here's some kind of inevitability around AI being used. If we cant stop, what's our options?

3. The Stars My Destination - Alfred Bester

How's that?
I will say I do love Clive Barkers stuff, but more individual stories from the books of blood than anything else

Newsflsh to nobody. Trying to write something chilling in 700 words is hard y'all. Read and re-read it all afternoon and I think it's finally to a point where it's alright.

Been re-watching Millenium with Lance Henrickson. Season 2 I think we all agree wasn't what we wanted, but I don't remember just how David Lynch -esque it was in the last episode. I was shocked!

Never watched season 3, looking forward to seeing if it got anywhere back on track to season 1 levels
