- Mela's last name is Tannin. Her full name is a reference to Melatonin (the sleep hormone) and Tannins, (a bitter plant compound that can be used as antidotes)

- Dan's full name is Dan Z. Din. Danzedin is the brand name of Serrapeptase which is a dietary supplement

- All the compounds that Mela mentioned as part of the cure for miasma are existing medications used to treat asthma and COPD. The format of her speech bubble is also similar to labels we put on compounded medicine.

- Miasma is an outdated theory that sicknesses like cholera or plague are caused by bad air released by rotting organic matter. It has been debunked by the germ theory.
