30 days of #halloween 2025 day 16: The Toxic Avenger Part 2 (1989)

I know these movies are popular, but they are not for me

30 days of #halloween 2025 day 15: Shocker (1989)

Mitch Pileggi as a bad guy is weird to see, but after a more dark and sombre start this goes absolutely batshit in the 2nd half, and I have to wonder if a better film was waiting to be unleashed (esp if the FX director hadn't checked out so early)

30 days of #halloween 2025 day 14: Pet Sematary (1989)

Stephen King novels have a low hit rate of successful movies, and the hammy-acted melodrama of this one does not buck that trend. Unintentionally hilarious in parts though, worth it just for the funeral scene (big I LOVE MY DEAD GAY SON energy)

30 days of #halloween 2025 day 13: Waxwork (1988)

Entertainingly bonkers and surprisingly loving homage to classic horror, exactly the kind of madcap whirlwind of ideas late 80s horror was so good at. Also Patrick Macnee gets his head popped off by a werewolf

30 days of #halloween 2025 day 12: Vampire's Kiss (1988)

The r/simpsonsshitposting of 80s horror. Or, Possession if it was written by a forlorn yuppie trying to passive aggressively end a failed relationship

30 days of #halloween 2025 day 11: The Lair of the White Worm (1988)

I first saw this as a much too young lad, remembered it being a bit mad, but hoo boy it is -so- much loopier than that. When you know Ken Russell basically treats it as a comedy, it gets a lot easier to appreciate

30 days of #halloween day 9: The Hidden (1987)

Kyle McLachlan as an FBI agent, pre-Twin Peaks? Claudia "Babylon 5' Christian as a gun-toting stripper? The police station shootout from Terminator? Alien slugs who want to be President? Sign me up

30 days of #halloween day 8: The Gate (1987)

Equal parts Poltergeist and Gremlins, and you can sure see the DNA that would go into the Stranger Things melting pot when you watch stuff like this

30 Days of #halloween Day 7: Hello Mary Lou (Prom Night 2) (1987)

If this wasn't ripping off its source material so hard (even though it's done with love), then this endearingly batty story would be a lot stronger. Fun but held back from being essential

30 Days of #halloween Day 6: My Best Friend is a Vampire (1987)

Hey look, it's that there Wilson off of House! An odd blend of Fright Night and late 80s confused gay romance, there's a weird amount of what would be the 1992 Buffy movie in this, but its heart is in the right place at least

30 Days of #halloween day 5: Trick of Treat (1986)

That's more like it - the healing power of heavy metal makes this a fun romp, equal parts Brainscan and Rock & Roll High School. The devil's music, indeed

30 Days of #halloween, Day 3: TerrorVision (1986)

Silly sci fi-themed comedy horror is absolutely my jam, there's an adorably batty punk rock girl, Jon Grier randomly shows up, no notes, loved it. Suzy 100% survives this as well, headcanon, will not be taking questions on that

30 Days of #halloween 2025 day 2: Rawhead Rex (1986). Ehhhhh this was pretty bad, sorry. I know Clive Barker wasn't happy either and it clearly has no budget, but it's just kind of a mess

30 Days of Halloween 2025 and we start with a classic: 86's 'Night of the Creeps'. Some Fred Dekker silliness (see also 'Monster Squad') for fans of the funnier stuff like 'Fright Night' and 'Creepshow'

What perfect album(s) came out when you were sixteen? (Yes I know this is cheating, don't @ me)

I did not have 'get proper into Gunpla model kits' down on my 2025 creative goals, but here we are

The problem with broad tastes is questions like these, combined with an only child's compulsion to share your world
November 18, 2024 at 8:36 AM
For me, a 'favourite' should be a combination of 'I will always watch this when I encounter it' (plenty more of those), and 'there isn't a wasted moment in this entire experience'
