I'm planning to write an editorial in @brain1878.bsky.social entitled "If patients only knew".
It's about obstacles that slow down or prevent people from participating in clinical studies and the pace of initiating #ClinicalTrials. If you have experience or comments please message me and repost.

Just to be clear this is not something we can tell from this study and any suggestion that it might be seems dangerous to me.
Stimulants rescue cognition and brain functional architecture if you didn’t sleep enough … short term: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... Is it possible that this is a true rescue, or is it just a temporary cover up and there will be a price to pay … maybe decades later? Asking for a friend.

This accumulating process has been obvious since at least 2021. I assumed Labour would reluctantly intervene to help. That they won't almost guarantees that UK academia will become an even more cruel/anti-intellectual place to work, even for those in RG universities. So I'm leaving.
At the start of this government there was lots of talk about ending the war on universities. But now the crude rhetoric about "ivory towers" has started up again.

Yet there are a whole bunch of things government could do to avoid a disaster without spending huge sums.

The end of the mass university era in England and Wales is now base case in my view after the last week. Much of Blue Labour, much of Britain's Right and a great number of voters will welcome that. But it's an interesting and arresting example of minoritarian state policy capture.

"UPFs affect health beyond the individual impact of high content of critical nutrients – sodium, trans fats and sugar"

< This study does not show this.

Food that's high in salt, trans fats, and sugar are bad for health.

Whether the 'ultra processing' makes any difference to this is unknown.

two points on EHRC advice on trans people's use of public toilets:

1) trans people are being required to out themselves when using loo in public

2) how is it enforceable? What about cis people who don't conform to stereotypical appearance?

it's shit.

What is the synaptic plasticity rule in the brain, we asked. It turns out there are multiple, even within individual neurons.

Congrats Jake!
