Devastated to learn of the passing of our beloved Carlos Deford Bailey.
My two fondest memories of Mr. Bailey are when he encouraged a professor to come on stage and dance with him at a conference (he did realize that this lady could jam) & this harmonica & a quick lesson I received from him. 🧵

I was also ecstatic to learn that one of the elders gave me a jar of plum butter after our book talk. I am not sure who gave it to me, so I’m gonna hug and thank all my aunties the next time I see them. 🥰

Spending time with the matriarch of Promised Land TN and presenting a copy of the book on the history of the community to Nashville’s historic First Baptist Church Capitol Hill for inclusion in its archives brought me great joy this weekend.
