Great talk by Alessandro Feraldi showing how gender and educational gaps in Healthy Working Life Expectancy change depending on the operationalization of health and work — important for interpreting existing evidence and designing future research in this area

What the essay doesn't do is tell you a lot about Andrew. I've written about him extensively in the past few years, and I hope it all sees the light of publication one day.🤞
For now - he was brilliant and vibrant. His love shaped me and fuels me. I miss him tremendously.

And because people (including myself) love maps, I leave you with this treat revealing that CVD mortality declines are continuing more in Southeastern states, a real head scratcher that we dive into further in the paper.

At older ages, strikingly, the amount of stagnation and rates of decline are pretty similar across income deciles – being in the top 10% wealthiest counties does not confer advantage in CVD trends. (!)
For women, the wealthiest counties appear to exhibit the most dramatic stagnation! (!!)

But here is where it gets even weirder...
We linked county-level mortality to 2010-median income.
In midlife, all income deciles stagnated. Only the very highest income decile is still decreasing in CVD after 2010 while the second highest decile exhibits no change, and ALL OTHERS are increasing.

In older ages, average annual change in CVD death rates per 100,000 was -42.63 pre-2010 and 9.35 post-2010.
So, CVD death rates among older adults were still declining in most states, but the absolute difference between the two periods is larger than in midlife.

In midlife, every state was declining in 2000-2009 (average annual change in CVD death rates per 100,000 of -2.71).
In 2010-2019, all besides men in Alaska experienced stagnating declines, and many states (34 for men, 26 for women) exhibited increases in CVD (average annual change of 0.35).
