AI is a math equation computation. AI does not think. It does not create new knowledge. It feeds on bad answers to make more bad answers. It does not reconsider old assumptions.

stop it.

The tears I just cried.

Jane Fonda, 87, has relaunched The Committee for the First Amendment, the organization of Hollywood stars and filmmakers that her father, Henry Fonda, helped found in September 1947.

May Jane's 550-person endeavor outlive Henry's.

Friends, there are plenty of things RFK Jr. says and does that are worthy of contempt.

I am not on board with the “addict”, “junkie”, “heroin freak” narrative.

There are plenty of people in recovery who never go on to be sociopathic frauds, and they are worthy of our love and support.

I am grieving the barbarism that is going to unfurl from all this. People are going to die. Livelihoods gone. All to feed a corrupt kleptocracy.

I see every day up close how different it is from the first time around. There are no guardrails. A disaster. I’m sorry we have to live through this.

RFK Jr. is flogging wearable diet/exercise monitors that cost “80 bucks a month”. This is a good demonstration of his complete lack of understanding about public health and people with differing resources from those that he enjoys.

Feed them. Pay them a livable wage. Don’t track their behavior.

To eviscerate the administrative state is to undermine many achievements of the Labor, Civil Rights, Antipoverty, Consumer, Women’s, and Environmental Movements. The roots of this Court’s antipathy to post-New Deal America are not too hard to trace.

The biggest mistake I see in discussions of trans people's healthcare is the idea that hormones and the like are some special service just for us when really all kinds of people access the same health care for all kinds of reasons but they are *withheld* from us because we are trans

If David Ellison's bid for the historic studio closes, its corporate culture will transform from boardroom deliberating to family office decisionmaking. That could be a very good thing.

Classic old guy "the kids need to deal with real life the my generation did" but for heroin overdoses
Anyone else find it strange that a man with a 14-year heroin addiction is railing against Narcan—the lifesaving drug that helped drive a sharp drop in overdose deaths after a federal distribution program?

No one said Narcan cures addiction. It prevents funerals. That’s the point. The facts 👇🏾

I regret to inform you that I am editing Wurman’s paper like a student’s.

I regret to tell you that, once again, I am compelled to do things that distract from my own research agenda because people are playing historian poorly in service of a morally bankrupt enterprise to strip people of rights.

I’m sorry it needs to be said, but I am pleased folks are recognizing that we are in a period in which history is under attack to justify the current political moment. Academics always have a duty to search for truth, but we must be hyper-vigilant safeguarding fact from fiction today.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the tension between the principles of “freedom to” vs. “freedom from” in the context of public health. Public health is often working toward “freedom from”; from smoke-filled air or vaccine-preventable disease, or from having a mass shooting at an elementary school.

Here in Illinois, ten years ago we saw the consequences of a rampant ideological gutting of government.

It genuinely harmed people. Our citizens hated it.

Trust me – I was elected based in part on just how much they hated it.

Works great, I am happy, $69/year back in my pocket!
