But my initial point was that aptitude does exist. People have proclivities or advantages that predispose them to be better at certain tasks than others. What people do with these aptitudes is complex. Some people, after being forced to hone their talents, reject them and do something else entirely.

You're right that people try things they are bad at, but generally people find it easier to stick with things they have some aptitude in. I, for one, am awful at drawing, though I do practice some and try to improve. I am much better at writing and tend to prefer that to express myself.

There are sadly "chosen ones" just as their are those who suffer extreme disabilities. Now, certain skills may be more reliant on things like practice, but the person's aptitude to learn them is pretty heavily influenced by factors outside their control.
