When we adults are looking for the adult in the room, it’s us.
I think Americans, blessed with relatively stable government for a long time, assume there is someone, some adult, who will step in and make things right before the President does anything REALLY bad.

There’s not.

Lawyer life is sometimes wild. Two clients crying in my office today, one with anger and the other with joy. My heart is not made for this.

I had a delightful call with Mothers Esquire over lunch to plan our second conference in Louisville, KY May 7-9. We will be addressing the unique challenges of working lawyers who are expected to care for families. And bourbon. There will be bourbon. mothersesquire.org
MothersEsquire
A website for mothers and lawyers focused on professional support and advocacy. Our goal is to reduce the attrition rate of women lawyers and support all caregiving lawyers.

Listening to a SciFi book at work. Aliens. Magic. Fantasy physics. The only incredible thing is the mention of a basement in Miami, Florida.

I don't know who needs to know this, but Pro Publica has an online thing that will format a letter to your US health insurance company to demand the records behind a claim denial. (which the insurance is then legally required to provide in most cases)

Attention: My law school suit (circa 2003) no longer fits. I blame Christmas, the holiday spirit, jolly good cheer, Christmases both bright and gay, and also by extension, Thanksgiving.

This means war!

Observing the rapid migration to this app from all sorts of other platforms is pretty fascinating. I’m looking forward to learning more about interacting here.

I’m so glad my daughter dragged me out for a concert with a TikTok famous band. I sang along with at least a few Sixpence None The Richer songs.

I’m in court today, sans deer antlers, and the fashion is killer. 38° and shorts/t-shirt with boat shoes. Someone else was wearing a furry Russian hat. A full Adidas track suit. So much fashion.

Little things that annoy me today:

1. The guy blowing leaves outside my office in the middle of a rainstorm.
2. The lady next to me who only uses speakerphone.
3. The patriarchy.
4. My clients.
5. Other attorney’s clients.
6. Lingering existential dread.

Congratulations Justice Riggs! Every vote counts. I say that on every canvas. We need to overcome apathy.
📌BREAKING: Absolutely gargantuan win in North Carolina where Democrats hold onto Supreme Court seat. A mere 625 votes made the difference in this one -- just in case you don't think every vote matters.

I wonder why the House Dems aren’t calling for releasing the Gaetz report?
Wild that none of the democratic house leadership is on this
🚨 NEWS: I led nearly 100 House Democrats in a letter urging the House Ethics Committee to release the Gaetz report immediately.

There is a teams discussion going on in my firm about whether a presumptive father has standing to block the pregnant person from relocating. Someone brought up back child support as an economic interest to convey standing. I’m sick. This is disgusting.

This weekend has been a reset from all politics all the time. Yard work, shopping, cleaning, cooking. It was nice to have a long list of mundane things to do.

I love the idea of grammar nerds roaming the streets in gangs.
Many commentators say that vigilante groups are never the answer. But they clearly don't know about the masked Ecuadorian trio named “Acción Ortográfica Quito,” who roam the streets at night with a singular purpose: to correct all the spelling and grammar mistakes they find in graffiti.
