This episode was a wild ride and I can't believe how popular this book was.

Oh lord the end of this article is extremely bleak. Horrible stuff from brainwashed people.

I feel like mine WAS a bit traumatizing. But it would have been 1000% worse if I’d attempted a “free birth” with untrained “friends” I met through some internet class I paid $399 for, Jesus. The odds that works out for me feel like zero.

For sure there are some hospital horror stories in this article, and I’m sympathetic to wanting more control over the process. But I think we’re being sold a lie that there’s a way to guarantee your birth will feel empowering. Some births are traumatizing. Hospital or no.

Like this woman, I also had a “1% of births go badly in this particular way” kind of delivery. Bad baby position, cord up at the neck, stuck shoulder, big head…we broke a clavicle getting him out, but he’s fine today because I was in a goddamn hospital and people knew what they were doing.

We gave him a push walker with wheels, but because of the balance thing he has to lean into it pretty hard...which makes it roll really fast. So my evenings are just this baby RUNNING through the house with it, screaming in fear and delight.
