and the step event, instead of having all the individual logic for every single menu option of every page, basically just has controls, and lets the menu item deal with that how it wants.

for comparison, the menus in Canon. its just a bunch of nested structs and reusable functions. each menu item takes care of its own name, values, functionality, and even drawing.

Second pic is the entire draw event, even then its a bit messier than id like but oh well.

and then in the begin step i had this shit??? i think this was how each menu item knew what value it was meant to represent, because the menu items were LITERALLY just strings.

then for some fucking reason i had to(?) hardcode all the input bindings into my shitty array IN REVERSE ORDER?

so all of the pages were declared in one of many deprecated 2d arrays, then the way I grouped each setting into adjustment styles (toggle, slider, etc.) was by hard coding the settings string into a ds_list (mind you this means NO TYPO'S)

idk how many people care about debug systems like this but i think its very fun to see how games work and shit, and this has already been immensely useful

someone on the Gamemaker Discord wanted pointers on their sonic sprite so i did my own version.

I did one that was just theirs with the palette consolidated down, and then I made this one which was much different and I'm really quite proud of it

here is the entire demo lol, its like 4 minutes long. Really interesting to see what changed and what didnt.

By the way, i didnt know how to make interactions work yet so you had to click on some things and press Z on others, with no delineation at all.
