Freeing myself from the obligation to travel. Driving hours to family worked until I had a child with extreme motion sickness. It took courage to switch it up but we created new traditions and the OG fam sometimes even travel to us. Traditions should be an anchor not a straightjacket.

💯 I went on a group birding walk this morning and it was 2 hours of joy. If we don't step away from *all this* regularly, we will not have the stamina to fight it.

The cardboard boxes they come in consistently tick all those boxes. :D And also LEGOs or plain old blocks. Or for older kids a DIY marble run.
