Fantasy Author; sometimes it's easier to create a world, than live in this one.

I've worked in theatre for the past 22 years in various roles, using that experience to set my fantasy novel in a theatre.

Distracting myself from writing, by reading about writing, which is still productive but requires less focus this #5amwritersclub

This morning is brought to you by the colour blue... weirdly this book has always felt a deep blue to me. I don't know what that means, but I'll probably find out by the time I finish writing it.

Having imagined The Wilds for so long in my book, I spent the day walking them. How lucky am I that this is in my mum's back yard!! Now, I just have to figure out how to get home...

Just finished this, pretty much in one sitting. Fun easy to read, with hints of gothic horror. The cover doesn't really match the dark, politically gritty nature of the book IMO.

A really rainy day in Stratford upon Avon, this is the view from the 4th floor of the theatre. It's a terrible view, and you have to stand up to look out but as anyone who works in technical theatre will agree, at least we have a window.

July had some good books! As long as the lemon trees grow was another stand out book.

Sunshine and a new book, I'm 100 pages in and couldn't wait to finish work to get back to As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow. It's set in Syria and is a long way from my lived experience but that's the wonder of books.

Did I mention I finished this book too? David Starkey's book focuses on Elizabeth's early life and how it impacted later decisions. It's a great read and very accessible.

North Woods is a glorious book. I had no idea what it was about when I picked it up but it's a gorgeous history of a plot of land. The people who cultivate and love it and the changes that occur over the centuries. It's a book about nature and humanity; I highly recommend it.

Reading this for some inspiration, Ronald Hutton always makes me feel like I'm studying, he writes with such an academic tone. Anyone have any similar titles to recommend? I'm researching The Wild Hunt, and Scottish mythology in particular.

I'm under the lilac tree, with my book and cold coffee. We have blasted through Henry's first 5 wives and now I'm waiting for Catherine Parr to appear. (This book is a history of the Dudley family who lived through the Tudor era, though many of them ended up beheaded for treason.)
