Every little girl should be so lucky to have a role model like I did in Colleen Jones. As someone from my hometown, traveling the world as a journalist and athlete, she showed me what it looked like to take risks and never stop being yourself.

Colleen Jones was a Canadian icon and trailblazer for women in sports — a two-time world champion, six-time Canadian champion, and an esteemed reporter with CBC for nearly four decades.

My thoughts are with her family, her community in Nova Scotia, and her fans across Canada.

Colleen Jones asked me to interview her a couple of months ago during a chemotherapy appointment.

She told me to write one heck of a story. I hope I did her proud.

About always believing something wonderful is about to happen.

Restorative weekend home in Canada to take in a few Stratford productions. Before ANNIE (the only production set in the U.S.) the orchestra played “O Canada” to push back against American threats. We all jumped up and I was overcome by the unexpected chance to sing with fellow Canadians.
