What are we even doing
I love birds that hold down winter in the mountains - towhees, chickadees, woodpeckers, cardinals, sparrows, etc - until spring brings back fancier songbirds, like buntings, grossbeaks, orioles, warblers, goldfinches, etc.

But also turkeys. Here are three from “our” flock of ~15 a couple weeks ago.

As the days get shorter, I’m reminiscing about sunrise over the Pacific in Korea this stiflingly hot summer, when I was convinced I couldn’t wait for chilly winter weather.

I miss Korea, and I almost (gasp) miss summer.

Just a quick Korea appreciation post.

My hometown doesn’t have a flag, but the flag Wikipedia offers up as the flag of the town where I spent my childhood summers is unflinching, and also very clip arty. But I swear Jimmy Stewart’s face is the town’s real flag.

Summer is easily my least favorite season, but views like this, colors like this, the sound and smell of this, convinces me summer isn’t all bad.

Lotuses in almost-bloom.

I love kid gifts.

Sometimes, no matter what else is happening in the world, a summer night is more lovely than you’d ever thought possible. Tonight is one of those nights.

But also, counterpoint, here’s the message from the sheriff from the next county north.

More alien flowers.

Film definitely would have been better. Alas.

This moped was abandoned/flooded during Superstorm Sandy, and after that people just moved it around from spot to spot in DUMBO for about a year.

My favorite alien flowers.

Appalachia is awash in them now. Like blackberries, they’re going completely wild this year.

This is my favorite thing the internet has evereverever produced because we can whip it out any week and it’s just as relevant.

For no reason other than we all need to stop and breathe more than we do, here’s a field of bluebonnets.

This one’s from February but it’s my all time favorite now.

Running from/raised with. 😑

I will share this, which I saw someone else post this morning, but I lost his original post and have no idea who he was. It’s an essay George Orwell wrote decades ago, and it resonates really powerfully right now.

Yesterday I scrawled this purely for my own benefit, to come across in my camera roll years later and either say, “yeah, that was a crazy time,” or “whew, we thought it was crazy then….”

Without downloading any new pics, where are you mentally?

Um, hello pillow friend.

I’m so sorry. It really doesn’t ever end. I had the dog show on, too, and was getting misty for my Georges-Pierre, gone five years now. Dogs are such a gift, and so hard to live without.

Yes and I’m an equal combination learner.

Discovering we don’t all visualize things blew my mind. My dad, whose learning style I don’t know, but he has a Ph.D in literature & criticism, told me when he’s reading, he doesn’t see what the author describes. He can’t conjure up an apple like 1 or 2. 🤯

Long day. But it’s culminating with a family dinner, and there’s a very cozy bed waiting for me after that.
