I only realized that it was Prime Day because Amazon must have spent a fortune on ads bombarding me.

Then I checked other retailers.

Bookshop.org (which I love anyway and which gives a percentage of your order to indie bookstores) is holding an anti-Prime sale:
Bookshop: Buy books online. Support local bookstores.
An online bookstore that financially supports local independent bookstores and gives back to the book community.

@theguardian.com this is wrong on trident use. Not only used in ‘highly unlikely scenario where a surprise, all-out nuclear attack destroys the UK and its way of life.’ UK could use nukes first and in response to range of threats including to NATO allies

Meanwhile here in the U.K., extra concerning in the context of continuing gov attempts to limit legal public protest.
🚨 Outrage as 20 police officers break into Westminster Quaker Meeting House and arrest six. 🚨
This shocking violation of a place of worship is a direct result of crackdowns on protest and dissent - freedom of speech, assembly and democracy are at risk.🕊️

The sad thing is that email and admin have taken over academic life so much that many of us have to squeeze in the poisoning of minds on evenings and weekends.
Kemi Badenoch this morning: "A country cannot be successful if its people and intellectual elite don’t believe in it. This means dealing with the poisoning of minds through higher education."

#nukesky request for help, the claim that in a future disarmed world, any state with a nuclear weapon/s would have an overwhelming advantage. Is there research that bases this in history, theory, strategy etc? Is there work that argues this through? I’d like to read it if anyone has suggestions?

I wrote a commentary on the impacts of any further nuclear weapons buildup on people and communities in New Mexico. Recent recommendations ignore the human and environmental costs of more nukes. inkstickmedia.com/nuclear-arms...
Nuclear Arms Buildup Isn't Just about War. It Also Harms People and Communities.
The prevalence of this acceptance of arms racing and nuclear war fighting talk does not simply reflect the world we are in, it has political power to influence the world and increase the risks we face...
