Many thanks to my co-authors Andrew Mehring, Nathan Tomczyk, Amy Rosemond, Kyle Mckay, Emily Bernhardt, and Seth Wenger.

This paper started as a comprehensive exam question from Andrew and quickly became my favorite chapter. Three cheers for positive comps experiences and great co-authors! (5/5)

- Sediment stabilization and vegetation restoration in the former reservoir merit investigation for their potential to decrease dam removal-associated emissions. (4/5)

- Emissions during removal can constitute a substantial portion of the lifetime emissions attributable to a dam. We argue that these emissions should be considered a cost incurred at dam construction. (3/5)

- Dam removal decreased carbon sequestration in all modeled reservoir footprints.

- The magnitude of change was influenced by the ecological and geomorphic setting, in particular the sediment quantity and fate. (2/5)
