I did wonder if that's what they meant.

I don't want it to die but it needs a long rest.

A hide thread option would be nice. As opposed to the current mute thread which stops notifications only.

After Notting Hill and Love Actually, I always used to say that I don't want to live in London, I want to live in London in a Richard Curtis movie.

Honestly I think that on a 60s TV "somewhat visible" drops to "almost invisible".
And it's not like anyone's ever going to see it more than once ;)

seems like that's what "mute thread" should do, but it doesn't.

BTW I searched mute thread and lots of people posting things like "mute this if you don't care about X" seem to think it works this way too.

As far as I can tell, "mute thread" only mutes notifications. But I don't get notified anyway. I think it would work how I want if I was the thread starter but I'm not.
I can blanket stop all replies/reposts/quotes but not for a specific thread.
All I want is to be able to filter out a noisy thread

So I don't think "mute thread" works the way I thought it did.
Here's what happened:
- someone I'm following has a hit post, replies start filling up my timeline
- I don't want to mute that person, just the thread so I hit "mute thread" in the ... menu for that post.
- replies and reposts continue
