Repeater signing is not used on street lit roads subject to a 30mph speed limit because the lamp columns act as the repeaters. Guidance is provided in rule 124 of the Highway Code. This has been law for over 70 years and all drivers are required to learn this in order to pass their driving test.

Car clubs are commercial businesses, so I don't expect them to be subsidized, but I wonder too if boroughs charging £1000+/year per vehicle with the related admin efforts don't help the economics

An Oxford hotelier has issued a statement apologising for linking the Holocaust with Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs). Jeremy Mogford, the owner of Old Bank Hotel in High Street and Old Parsonage Hotel in Banbury Road, has admitted he was guilty of “over-dramatising” the cause of Oxford’s traffic filters after he compared Oxfordshire County Councillor Andrew Gant to Josef Mengele. Mengele was a German SS officer who performed deadly experiments on prisoners in Auschwitz II and was known as the Angel of Death. The apology comes after Mr Mogford sent an email to councillors about Mr Gant, in which he likened the LTNs to the Holocaust. READ MORE: Oxford hotel boss Jeremy Mogford compares LTNs to Holocaust Mr Mogford wrote: “This man Gant, along with his associates, are the Mengele equivalent……Experimenting with people (our city), without knowing what the consequences might be, which could and probably will be terminal.” The email was sent to resident Peter West at 8.45pm on Tuesday evening (February 14) and councillors were copied in alongside MP Anneliese Dodds. Mr Mogford’s statement today stated: “I would like to apologise for my statement made to and about Mr Gant and his associates, comparing the aforementioned to Mengele, whom I have, and always will totally condemn.

My favourite objection to a cycle hanger was the "Poor Feng Shui" one, sub'd to Brent Council in Jan 2020.

8/ After an initial week of folk trying out the #Silvertown bike bus, the usage has settled down into a stable 120-or-so per day. It's rare for anyone to be left behind.

The bike bus is free for the first year, and contracted for three years.

The London Cable Car is the closest available link, while the Greenwich and Woolwich Foot Tunnels and London River Services are also available. The new Silvertown Tunnel cycle shuttle, which is free for at least the first 12 months, runs from 06.30 until 21:30 every day, apart from Christmas Day. It can accommodate a range of cycles, including conventional pedal bikes, e-bikes, cargo bikes, hire bikes and adaptive cycles, with conventional cycles making up almost 80 per cent of all trips. The average daily demand is between 125 and 130 cyclists. While this is below the capacity of the service, usage is expected to grow as cyclists plan and adapt their routes to benefit from this innovative and free crossing option. To encourage more Londoners to try the shuttle service, we will continue to advertise it through the summer. This includes collaborations with microinfluencers to promote the service, as well as additional roadside posters in the local area.

A Sutton chef who used his car as a weapon against a motorcyclist said he “saw red” because the biker tried to drive off following a crash. Bilel Tchikou chased the biker through Sutton for five minutes, repeatedly tried to knock into him and crashed into a street bollard. The 35-year-old avoided prison “by the skin of his teeth” on Thursday, July 17, as a judge said the victim could have been killed. The Old Bailey heard that Tchikou, of Shelley Way in Colliers Wood, was driving a SEAT Leon on the evening of September 27 last year when he was involved in a minor collision with a motorcycle. Tchikou said he “saw red” as the biker did not stop to swap details. A lengthy chase ensued in which Tchikou pulled off highly dangerous manoeuvres, tried to crash into the motorcyclist and collided with street furniture. The biker sustained some injury to his leg during the incident but was not supportive of the prosecution. Tchikou pleaded guilty to dangerous driving. Judge Philip Katz KC, sentencing, said: “You were using your car as a weapon. You were trying to bump into this man and knock him over. “He was lucky not to be killed. The risk to him and members of the public as you drove like a maniac must have been obvious to you.” Tchikou had an unblemished criminal record prior to this offence and the court heard he regrets his actions. Judge Katz sentenced him to 15 months in custody but suspended the sentence for two years. “You’ve avoided prison by the skin of your teeth,” Judge Katz said. Tchikou will be required to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work. He will be disqualified from driving for 18 months and must pass an extended retest before he can drive again.
