He/Him. A programmer with thespian leanings. I have a love of laserdiscs and physical media in general. Expect lots of rabbits, nerdiness, video editing, and unhealthy levels of Highlander 2.

LGBTQ+ welcome. Fascists not.
Another good mail day. #Blakes7

At last! I finally have the complete #EvilDead Trilogy on #laserdisc!
November 6, 2025 at 2:45 PM
It includes some footage from the DC but loses some from the US. Crucially it's a longer cut but it retains the "S-Mart" ending.

Even more fun is that the disc includes the DC ending after the credits, so you can program it to include whichever ending you want!

One of my "holy grail" #Laserdiscs just arrived!

CAPTAIN SUPERMARKET!

The western version of the film had some boring title like #EvilDead 3 #ArmyOfDarkness, but only Japan released it with the true, superior title.

Last night I finished reading The Shining, my first (but not last) Stephen King novel.

While reading it I kept wondering why Kubrick left out all the crucial character backstory from his film, but it turns out I've only ever seen the International Cut which is missing 25 minutes of backstory.

Tonight's spooky season film was Edgar Wright's incredible "Last Night in Soho."

It's become a bit of a Halloween staple for us and is possibly my favourite film of the decade.

As it's our anniversary weekend we finally got around to opening one of the bottles of sake we brought back from Japan.

Dassai 39 is my favourite, but we brought back a small bottle of the fancier 23 that is usually too expensive here in the UK.

I'd forgotten how smooth and floral it is.

I can't believe it's already been ten years since the best trip I ever took to the cinema!

On the Kiki burnout scale I'd say I'm right about the point where Jiji stops talking.

We just finished watching the original Tron on 4K Blu Ray and wow! For some reason I wasn't expecting the film to look anywhere near as great as it does. The real world scenes look so detailed and the computer world glows with HDR, letting the wide colour gamut shine! Great stuff!

Rainbow Road.

Oh yeah, the 2013 Collector's Edition DVD of "Ultraviolet" is a huge improvement over the original 2001 set.

It's still letterboxed, a bit desaturated, and maybe a hint of DNR, but the fact that this transfer avoids the near constant rainbow artefacts of the old DVDs makes it a worthwhile upgrade.

Trying not to get too excited about recent rumours of #DoctorWho missing episode returns, but I can't help but dream.

The character limit is too small here so here is my full post from Mastodon: mas.to/@LaserdiscTu...

Reminds me of back when Moku found that he could worry the pellet bag.

I still miss this little bundle of mischief.
October 3, 2025 at 9:13 AM
For a while we kept Florence's bag of pellets on top of her cat tree and of course she worked out where they were.

Even after moving them to a more secure location she'd still jump up there and look, so now we leave a portion controlled bowl of pellets there so she can still enjoy a "sneaky" treat.

Starting spooky season by watching an absolute underrated gem of a series; Ultraviolet.

First time I've watched it in years and I'm delighted that it stands up incredibly well considering it's 27 years old!

The DVD is certainly showing its age though, needs a modern transfer! Blu Ray maybe?
October 2, 2025 at 8:26 PM
Just Florence being adorable.
September 29, 2025 at 8:32 PM
Yes! One of my favourite underrated gems, #CloudAtlas is finally getting a #4K #BluRay release! I hope there's a UK/EU version coming too so I can avoid importing.

Given the recent success of "Everything Everywhere All At Once" maybe there will be a warmer welcome waiting for this film nowadays.

Some pictures of the various acoustic performances performed around Tilburg as satellite events for the big Ayreon show. I'm particularly proud of the shot of Mike Mills (Toehider)

I've been going through the photos of an amazing week with friends and Ayreon. These trips to Tilburg every two years have become quite special to me. See you all again in 2027!

I can't believe that it's already been a year since #Sayuri passed away. To be honest I'm still not entirely over it. I've never really got into J-Pop/rock but her music just grabbed me and refused to let go. Such an incredible talent. #さユり
