#thedismissal was my 1st political memory. I was tiny. But it was seismic & everyone in Australia talked about it for years.
Travelling in Asia, Europe & North America I realised Oz is pretty unimportant cause even the most well-educated folks I met had no idea the UK queen had sacked an Oz PM.

This is what so-called AI is actually good at: supercomplex pattern matching.
Finding enzymes that turn polyurethane production into a closed loop is what "AI" should be used for: the stuff humans can't do that makes the world a better place.

It would be lovely if we had the freedom to make better choices. But most live in circumstances that make that very difficult.
if we all had access to shelter, food, clean air & water, clothing, good healthcare & enough time to rest & enjoy ourselves THEN we all could make better choices.

I'm increasingly leary of criticisms that focus on individual choice, when they're NOT a billionaire, when they have little access to power or capital.
Even in creative industries it's become near impossible to make a living without using platforms owned by billionaires.

Yes! So impressive! I've been reading Mike Wallace's Gotham at War and the parallels between LaGuardia & Mamdani (and contrasts) are fascinating.

I wish there was more commentary on this. It's in every speech! So many historical references! And filmmaker/novelist turns of phrase/specific details to ground his policies in reality. 👏

How do I know? I was raised by two anthropologist/sociologists.
Mamdani was raised valuing ideas & community. Anthropology/sociology/political science are literally studies of humans as communities.
Filmmaking is a very communal creative activity. Extremely difficult to do solo.
He was raised listening & taking part in convos that centre humanity. It shows!

English is a mess that daily torments those of us who experience typos as pain.
I remind myself that pretty much every book has at least one remaining typo despite being edited, copyedited and proofed. And yet typos in these unproofed skeets hurt our brains.

Wonderful news about Aurora. I missed that in the avalanche of reasonable people victories last night. Thanks for sharing!
