This, please. The team whose fans raise money for other team’s players who are receiving death threats over the team whose fans are among the worst in the league.

Had the exact same thought.

Curious since you’re English—do you pronounce it the same way she does? I don’t.

And thank you @reggie132.bsky.social for a reasonable discussion! Grateful for Bluesky being a safe place to disagree…would never have tried this on the other place.

Maybe self defense wasn’t the right defense. In any case, I think they’ve served their time.

I’m so sorry that happened to you. Very happy for you for finding your strength and your happiness!

I feel this way about police and race. I mean I always knew that people of color were treated unfairly by the police but I had no idea how bad it was until I saw phone footage and I feel terrible for being so naive.

Right. But we are not who we were in the ‘90s, right? I’d encourage you to watch it because it really is eye-opening. It’s similar to viewing the OJ trial with what we now know about race and police versus what we knew then.

And you have to believe that by the law of averages at least one man on that jury either was abused or knew someone who was, right? But maybe the shame was too great because you don’t want to be the one guy who says “yeah I believe them.”

We all have to forgive ourselves when we know better.

I was fascinated that, in the first trial, the jury was split by gender: the women believed the brothers had been abused and the men did not. The Catholic Church scandal had not yet exploded so I think the concept of boys as victims was not yet something many people “believed.”

Watch the documentary if you haven’t already. They were very reluctant to admit the abuse because they were so ashamed—ready to go to prison rather than admit it. Young men at that time were never thought of as abuse victims, so it was terrifying to reveal it on the stand.

I think you just wrote his epitaph.

I think given the time they’ve served and what other support that they’ve been through at the hands of their father, they’ve served their time.
